Excel Converter not working

description

I found the Excel converter simply would not convert files to PDF. I installed a printer driver (PCL driver not Postscript) and suddenly it worked!

If you have problems with the Excel converter, after installing Excel 2007 on your server, try installing a printer driver - PCL, just any PCL driver.

I can only guess this is because the Excel export to PDF or XPS functionality creates a virtual printer driver and trys to iterate through the available printer drivers. If the list of available printer drivers is empty it doesn't work. That's my guess.

Here is a link explaining the reasons why.

I know this is for Excel 2000 but the reasoning is the same.

Thanks CodeHulk! It's nice to know what the issues are - even if we just have to live with them.

turns out that while you do need a printer driver, the plugin would rather have a PCL driver than a Postscript one. The Doc2PDF works with a Postscript driver but Excel2PDF doesn't like it...go figure....
